July 2017

This is one of the nicest months this year because there’s not much to plan for other than enjoying the time with friends and family here at Rosy’s. Well, there are a couple of things we’re pulling together but nothing to stress over.

First is our Spirit Night, which is tonight, and we’re tasting Nikka Japanese grain whisky. I bet many folks didn’t even realize there was such a thing. After I introduced it to our bar a few months back, I was surprised at the comments we received; it’s really gaining in popularity. Japanese whisky (without the “e”), started in the early 1900s and regularly tops yearly rankings. K & L Wine Merchants calls it “The best grain whiskey we’ve seen available on the American market.” This Grain Whisky is distilled in a “Coffey still”, which is a very traditional and rare patent still that Nikka imported from Scotland in 1963. The Coffey still produces a complex whisky with a mellow and sweet taste originating from the grain itself. It’s compared to a fine bourbon, and we’ll be mixing Manhattans tonight to showcase its flavors. If you have a free night tonight, stop by between 5:30 to 7:30pm for a taste of Nikka Japanese grain whisky.

The second thing we’re planning this month is we’re hosting a party on July 29th and everyone’s invited. A special friend of mine is planning a surprise party and asked if we can have a DJ. I figured why not just make it a party for everyone! On Saturday night July 29th, we’re clearing the tables from the bar for a dance floor and cranking up the music. It’s like our New Year’s party in July! If you’re Downtown on Saturday the 29th, come on over for music and dancing. There’s no cover charge, and you don’t even have to bring a present.

That’s all there is as far as events go, and the rest is just simply enjoying the lazy summer month with fine food and drinks. We’ve added new items to our Summer Menu including two new appetizers. The first is the Mazatlan Style Ceviche; fresh white fish with mango, avocado, cucumber, and bell peppers. Ceviche uses a cold cooking method for fish, marinating it in lemon juice to cook it in the acids. We serve our ceviche with freshly made tortilla chips. The other new appetizer is Coconut Deep Fried Prawns, with sweet Thai chili sauce and warm jicama slaw; everyone is going crazy over this one.

On our lunch menu we have salads featuring fresh sweet corn: Sweet Corn Salad with Grilled Salmon, Summer Watermelon Salad, and the Organic Tomato Salad. Our Chef is also featuring wild petrale sole, which is a filet of sole, and meatier than a thin sole. The petrale sole is from the halibut family, and it’s a healthy texture for filet of sole.

Some of our existing menu items have also been Summer-ized by changing the relishes that go with them. We’re adding the tomato relish with cilantro and jalapeño aioli, avocado mango chutney to go with the roasted snapper, and the salmon is going to have the roasted corn relish and lemon butter sauce. Our chef is using the flavors of summer fresh vegetables to add a different twist. We are also Summer-izing the classic BLT by adding blackened snapper and avocado which is just the perfect summer sandwich in my opinion. On the dinner menu, we’ve added seafood jambalaya, which is clams, fresh fish, prawns, calamari, Cajun sausage, chicken, bell pepper, onion, and basmati rice. You’ll also find mango glazed sautéed prawns as a new item.

That’s about all that’s happening this month. It’s really just the stress free days of summer. You can see it in parent’s faces these days too, nice calm dinners with the families. This is the perfect time of year for our white and red sangria, with muddled fruit. Definitely check out our white wine lists. White wines are perfect for the summer and are very refreshing and go great with food.

So if you happen to be Downtown tonight for Spirit Night tonight, on the 29th for a summer dance party, or just any night to enjoy our summer menu, be sure to say hi, and enjoy your time with us at the only place that serves seafood, spirits, and self esteem.

January 2017 Newsletter

January 2017

It’s a new year, and I’m looking forward to trying new things here at Rosy’s. Did you know that when Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were created, chocolate wasn’t new, and neither was peanut butter, but boy, when you combine the two – POW!, a new thing was created (or at least that’s how the commercial goes). We have a few New Things for you to try this month at Rosy’s.

Spirit Night is tonight, Wednesday Jan 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Tonight we are tasting Wild Turkey 81, a Kentucky Bourbon. Wild Turkey has been around for a while, and when I recently read about their distilling process, I thought this would be a great tasting selection. Jimmy Russell, the Master Distiller, is longest tenured active Master Distiller. Jimmy’s son Eddie has been around for thirty-five years. So here’s this father son team that has tons of experience, and are just down to earth. Their process isn’t fancy, but it’s spot on. They store the whiskey in white American Oak barrels that put an alligator char high burn on the inside to give the whiskey their signature color and taste. They pull their water from the Kentucky river, filtered through the natural limestone Also, even though the requirement is only two years of aging for Bourbon, they age Wild Turkey for five years. They just seem to go over and above with their quality. The flavor profiles are sweet vanilla, pear, and hints of spice. When you come in tonight for a taste of that Wild Turkey, see if you can pick out one of those flavors – or maybe you can taste the white oak char. We’ll be serving many of the traditional bourbon drinks, including Mint Julep, Old Fashion, and the Manhattan. We’ll be selling a bottle for only $15, and it comes with this great hat. So what’s new about Kentucky Bourbon? Combine a Master Distiller, water from the Kentucky River, and alligator charred white oak, and you’ll see that just like a peanut butter cup… POW!

Super Bowl is coming up on February 5th, and we are doing something very special. We’re going to have all you can eat crab, a special during game time for only $45 per person. We’ll place $5 of the $45 into a pool. We’ll be serving lunch till 2pm, and after that, it’s our Super Bowl Private Party (open to the public). As the game starts, we’ll start with appetizers during the first half, and during the second half we’ll bring out the crab – all you can eat. Now have you heard of that one before?  Super Bowl and All-You-Can-Eat crab! Call us at 778-0551 and you can order your spot early.

February 14th is Valentine’s Day, and we’ll have a modified menu. Most of our regular items will be on the menu, and we’re adding a Per Couple Special, a four course meal with two glasses of wine for $125. You’ll see crab, lobster salad, filet mignon… three choices you can pick from. Click on the menu below to see all of the delicious options. This is the first time we’ve created a couple’s menu for Valentine’s day.  It will be like having the chef prepare a special meal for the two of you. Keep in mind that Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday, so we won’t be offering our Taco Tuesday that night.

We’re off to a strong start for the new year, and I hope you are too.  I look forward to trying new things this year by just taking the ordinary – and combining them to make the extraordinary. Like chocolate and peanut butter – POW!, you may never know the new things you can create if you don’t try. Come on in and see the new things we’re creating at Rosy’s, where you can always find great Seafood, Spirits, and Self Esteem.
